Onion Grades and Sizes

Onion Produce comes in different shapes and sizes. We combine onions of uniform characteristics into their grade and size. The following document outlines those characteristics.

Grades

Grading ensures that the physical characteristics of the onion bulbs are categorised into three classifications.

Premium

Bhima Variety Premium Onion

  • Comes with at least 2 Layers ( Double Patti) of outer covering.
  • They are of uniform shape and size.
  • They do not have sprouting, swelling or rotting.

DELHI MANDI Super Grade-A

Standard

Bhima Variety Standard Onion

  • Comes with at least 1 Layer (Single Patti) of outer covering.
  • They are uniform in shape and size (upto 70%) with slight discolouration.
  • They do not have sprouting, swelling or rotting.

No Grade

Bhima Variety No grade Onion

  • Come in all forms
  • They might or might not have protection layers.
  • They may have multiple cuts, slits and hints of sprouting.

Sizes

Onion are grouped on the size of their diameter. The following sizes are arranged from largest to smallest.

Large

  • Each onion bulb is greater than 60mm (0 > 60mm).

Medium

  • Each onion bulb is greater than 45mm and lesser than 60mm (45mm < O <60mm).

Small
